Dominick Mitchell (Drum)

Education:

• B.M. in Jazz Performance - Drumset; Florida International University

A true multi-instrumentalist at heart, Dominick began his musical journey a little over 20 years ago when he began playing guitar at about age 9. Throughout middle school and high school, he played in the school jazz bands and gigged around Miami with various rock bands. While studying music in college, he made a switch to drums as his primary instrument and completed his college degree as a jazz drummer. Dominick now finds himself in the unique position of being experienced as both a guitarist and drummer. His performance experience spans a variety of styles and settings including rock, blues, jazz, funk, Brazilian music, and musical theater. Since his move to New York in 2023, Dominick has been studying tabla and Indian Classical music under Pandit Samir Chatterjee.

As an educator of over five years, Dominick aims to help students build strong fundamentals while finding their own voice. He encourages students to listen, experiment, and have fun while developing their technique, creativity, and confidence.

Dominick believes that music is about listening, connecting, and responding appropriately to each musical situation.

Outside of music, he enjoys running, reading, and tap dancing.
