Maxim Azucena Estevez-Curtis
Violist Maxim Estevez-Curtis received her Bachelors of Music from New York University as a student of both Stephanie Baer and Karen Ritscher. During her time at NYU, she was a member of both University Orchestras, playing principal viola in NYUO2. An active chamber musician, Maxim performed with Baroque Ensemble, Broadway Orchestra, Mix Nouveau, and has premiered new works with NYU Composer’s Collective. She has also been an active participant in the choral department as a member of the NYU Chorale and A Capella Choir. In 2020, Maxim’s NYU quartet was asked to perform at Lincoln Center’s Rose Studio as part of the Intercollegiate Chamber Music Festival. That same spring she co-founded the “West 4th Collective,” a virtual orchestra bringing together NYU musicians at the start of the pandemic. In the summer of 2022, Maxim attended Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival as a student of Sheila Browne and Susan Dubois. This past January, she was also a participant in the Karen Tuttle Workshop hosted at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL.
Maxim’s interest in orchestral and chamber music began when she was young. From early elementary school through high school she performed with the Florida and Ohio All-State orchestras. Her high school quartet was a semifinalist in the Coltman Chamber Music competition in Austin, Texas.
As a freelance musician in New York City, Maxim has performed with the Symphony of Westchester, Bronx Orchestra, Press Start Video Game Music Orchestra, Brooklyn Chamber Players, and Orchestra Amadeus. She has also performed with various opera companies including the Bronx Opera Company, the New Amsterdam Opera, Opera America, and Regina Opera. Maxim was a featured musician on the single Venus Fly Trap produced by the artist Brakence and published by Columbia Records in the fall of 2022. She is also featured on the soundtrack of the documentary “Pets,” directed by Bryce Dallas Howard which is scheduled to release on Apple TV+ in the fall of 2023.
Maxim currently works in coordinating for Music Beans music school, teaches for City Strings and Piano, and performs with the String Orchestra of Brooklyn.
